Padre Island Yacht Club (PIYC)

2017 La Posada Events and History
SPONSORED BY THE LA POSADA FOUNDATION in partnership with the Padre Island Yacht Club.

Once again we look to Christmas as a joyful time for friends and families. One of the premier holiday events is the La Posada Kickoff Party and the La Posada Lighted Boat Parades that thrill thousands while collecting thousands of toys for Toys for Tots.

This year the La Posada Foundation promises wonderful La Posada events that will provide lasting memories of Christmas on the Island. The La Posada Committee spends months planning these fabulous events for all and our hope is that you thoroughly enjoy them.

December 4, 2017 – Collector Boat Captain’s Meeting – Padre Island Yacht Club 7:00-8:30 PM
Toy Collector Captain’s meet, to learn their routes, obtain yellow flashing lights, and finalize details of their roles during the La Posada Lighted Boat Parades.

Schlitterbahn Riverpark & Resort will be hosting the La Posada Kick Party to raise money and toys for children in the Coastal Bend. Entry charge for this event is a new toy. All of the donations and toys raised from this event will benefit the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Campaign.

December 7, 2017 – La Posada Boat Captain’s Meeting – Padre Island Yacht Club 7:00-8:30 PM
Captains of all of the lighted boats in the La Posada Lighted Boat Parade meet to learn more about the routes, rules, judging, parade boat number, and equipment they need to have.

December 8, 2017 – La Posada Lighted Boat Parade on the North end of the Island.

December 9, 2017 – La Posada Lighted Boat Parade on the South end of the Island.

The Lighted Boat Parades are a beautiful spectacle of decorated boats of all sizes with thousands of lights, cruising through the canals on a predetermined route. Hundreds of home parties are held during the Parades to celebrate the Christmas season. Toy collector boats owned and staffed by wonderful volunteers collect toys along the parade route from people on their docks. All the toys are given to our local U.S. Marines Toys for Tots campaign.

Boats have traveled through pre-determined parade routes in the canals of the Laguna Madre for 40 years, treating Islanders to lighted boat parades on both Friday and Saturday evenings. In 1996 the Padre Island Yacht Club started collecting toys during the La Posada Lighted Boat Parade for the Marines Toys for Tots and it continues to grow as an annual event.

Beginning in 2011 the La Posada Committee and Padre Island Yacht Club began the La Posada Kick-off Party. This was event was generously supported and hosted by Scuttlebutt’s Seafood Bar & Grill. The Kickoff Party has enhanced the La Posada tradition by creating a party atmosphere where participants can bring toys, eat, participate in live and silent auctions, and enjoy the Christmas spirit.

In 2015 the La Posada Foundation was formed to promote the La Posada Events and further expand the ability to help underprivileged children in the Coastal Bend. The La Posada Foundation’s Officers and Committee are 100% volunteers with no paid staff. This allows us to have a bigger impact on our community.

The goal of the La Posada Foundation is to help children throughout the year as well as during Christmas events. We’ve been able to contribute to children through donations to Timon’s Ministries and a needs program at Flour Bluff ISD.

The La Posada Foundation views the parades and the other La Posada events as being “All About The Kids”. The generosity of both individuals and businesses is what makes the La Posada events successful.

The La Posada Foundation invites everyone and their families, and friends to participate in the La Posada events and to give generously again this year.

Thank you for your wonderful support,
La Posada Foundation
